Courtesy of my son, Jim. It was his way of dealing with the sudden loss of his cousin, Zac in a pointless car crash.

This site was my way of coping with the extreme salary review in December 2004 and keeping in touch with other former idp staff.

Now it's matured into a resource on international education and development activities.

Change means opportunity

On 9 December 2004, IDP conducted some 60 or more extreme salary reviews "to reinvigorate the network." Some one in four of IDP's Australia staff and seven country offices and their services terminated, effectively within a few hours of their notice.

The point of xidp.com is to keep the spirit of fun, adventure and professionalism alive with former idp staff. xidp was designed to provide networking and general support for those that would like to retain the global collegiate spirit that characterises the world class company.

Almost a year on, most staff found great alternatives. The company itself, has revived its profitability and a new regime is guiding its future.

So the need for a recovery site for former idp staff was overtaken by a sustained and independent interest in the international education industry.

My server logs reveal web traffic continues to grow with users as from US, Thailand, Seychelles, Mexico, Singapore, Hungary, UK, Italy, New Zealand, Africa, Indonesia.

As xidp.com approaches completion, we've rolled out mailing list software to catch up with each other, do online hugs and exchange ideas about the industry generally. Some 100 are on the list. Stay in touch.
