Parliament has passed laws that will permit international students to study some of their courses outside the state of their registered university, TAFE or private college, according to a ninemsn report.

The Education Services for Overseas Students Legislation Amendment Bill 2007 passed the Senate last week as the government rushed a series of bills through the upper house on the last day of the budget sitting week.

The bill relaxes restrictions on where international students can undertake study or training.

It also changes procedures for deciding whether foreign students should lose their visas because of poor progress, with the immigration department no longer having to decide academic issues

However education providers need to report breaches of student visa conditions.
