Australian students will be able to study at yet another American universities while based on Swinburne University campus, according to news.com.au.
This will be the third US university to offer courses to local fee-paying students next year. It follows Carnegie-Melon’s entry in Adelaide and Kaplan move to offer undergraduate and master degrees in Australia after it acquired vocational course provider Tribeca Learning.
The report cites “experts” predicting there will be more to exploit “Australia’s lucrative domestic market”.
Christopher Hopey, vice-president at Northeastern University - the fourth largest private campus in the US - believes American education providers are also attracted to Australia’s large international student base.
“Twenty-five per cent of your enrolments are international students, who are continually looking for degrees,” Dr Hopey said.
“When we come to Australia, we’ll be recruiting your graduates who are international students, so that’s a whole other market potential there.”
Students will be expected to pay up to $40,000 for the dual qualifications from both campuses.
